Where on earth do they get the money?

I was just reading an article on breakingnews.ie. The headline was:

“Embassies braced as students hit foreign beaches”

A little snippet from the article goes thus:

“Irish embassies abroad are bracing themselves for a heavy workload as thousands of Leaving Certificate exam students hit foreign beaches and nightclubs, the Government said tonight.”

And even more exasperating:

“Spain, Thailand and Australia are among the most popular destinations.”

Even when I was working and on a half decent age I couldn’t afford a holiday myself. My recently aborted holiday attempt was to have been my first holiday since 1998.

Apparently about one third of those expecting their results are already abroad. Fair enough some might be over there working for the summer but what about the rest? As they are only legally allowed to work once they hit 16 years of age that only gives them one to two years to save up, and you can be sure that they haven’t saved up a whole lot in that time either.

I’m sounding old now and it’s even worse as I just realised that it was 13 years ago when I got my results. All we did was knock back some cans and flagons of cider and then headed off to the local nightclub.

I guess I’m just jealous!

ahh yes. the infamous trips to spain where all the ugly bitches go to hang around one of these resorts and bring back the overexposed pictures of them falling over each other in some club along the Costa Del Kip. I can’t even get a job unless I want to be a telemarketer – i was supposed to get one in a some printer shop in cork but that burned down. so no trip to spain for me :)

Dan – I know the feeling about not being able to get a job! I’ve been trying now since May!

Frob – I haven’t managed to get over there yet :( It is looking doubtful that I will before the baby is Born. Baby is due on the 7th of November and a friend of mine is having his stag night in Krakow around that time!
