There are a few bits and pieces that I was thinking of writing about but at this stage I have too many so I’m just going to link to them instead with a short description.
The Defence Forces website has had a makeover and they recommend using Mozilla Firefox.
Kieran has been having problems with accessing some sites using Gaelic Telecom/Imagine including my site. Joe (who I wrote about in another post, of paragliding infamy) also uses Gaelic Telecom/Imagine and has the same problems. It seems to me that they are using transparent proxy servers which are mangling header requests which in turn means that they have problems accessing sites that are hosted virtually on Apache.
Kieran has also created a rather cool screensaver and flash applet of the Youghal Clock Tower which displays the actual time where you are. In addition to all that he has been busy plotting the location of every pub in Youghal on Google Maps.
Someone captured a picture of a gigantic blue screen of death in Toronto.
This blog has had its busiest few days since I created it due to being linked to several times by Donncha. So hello to all my new visitors and thanks Donncha!
Bailer has a fantastic tutorial on his site on how to create a scalable image from a photo. Bailer is responsible for the fantastic images used on the Irish Defence Forces Insignia page on Wikipedia.
That’s about it. Still waiting for baby to arrive and my nerves are starting to shatter some more!
the pushing out should be today rite?
isn’t almost every site hosted virtually now? gone are the days when you could just enter the IP for a site unless that site has its own server dedicated to it. if a site is on shared hosting you usually get sent to some shitty “welcome to ___ hosting services, i’m sorry but this can’t possibly be the page you are looking for but please have a look at some of our great hosting deals” so how can gaelic telecom users browse the web at all?
Yesterday was supposed to be the big day!
Yep. Most sites are hosted virtually. I think there is more to it than just mangling headers. The hostname is filter6.int.imagine.ie so they must be doing some sort of filtering. My DNS changed a few weeks ago in that I’m now hosting it myself so that might have something to do with it.
