Through the wringer

I’ve been quiet lately as I’ve been sick yet again. This time around I had a cold which finally manifested itself into a chest infection before the weekend. No problems there, a few hot toddies and plenty of rest and limited access to Lucas in case I pass something on to him. However things took an evil twist yesterday and turned into a nightmare today.

Remember the abcess I had under my tooth after my filling fell out? Well It’s back and probably infected by the same bacteria responsible for my chest infection. Not only is it back but it is back with a vengence. The pain kept me up until 4am this morning and no pain killer would work. Started off with Solpadine in the evening and tried Nurofen plus last night and neither made and dent in the pain. Because of my cold, I can’t breathe through my nose and every breath was agony as the air hit my tooth.

So it was time for the big guns. Out came the Amoxicillin.  500mg of antibiotics and 20 minutes later my face turned yellow and the rest of me broke out in to a rash. And I really mean the rest of me. I knew as soon as I saw it what this was. I appear to be allergic to penicillin all of a sudden so I urgently needed some antihistamine. 10 minutes later I was in my GP’s surgery having got a shot of antihistamine in my arse and it started working almost straight away. Then off to the pharmacy for some cortisone tablets and painkillers for my tooth.

Howcome I never did anything about my tooth after the last time? I hear you say. Well, I did. I went to the dentist on the 6th of November and he took a look and €25 and told me to make an appointment to have it removed completely as I can’t afford a root canal. Murphy’s law comes in to play here now as the appointment to have it removed is this Thursday.

Typical. The pain is now a dull annoying throb now as a result of the Tramadol I’ve been prescribed but it is still there. I can’t wait until Thursday.

    Poor you!

There is only one thing worse than tooth ache, – ear ache.

    Hoping Thursday brings relief.

I hope so too Grannymar. I could really do with some sleep and here was me thinking that Lucas would be responsible for keeping me awake!

    Poor thing!!

You’re right to get the damn thing removed. I had one of those absesses on a lower molar, and even though the dentist had to use a monkey wrench to remove it, it was entirely worth it. The gap also provides a handy space to stash chewing gum!

    Feel better soon.

Ha ha! Never thought of stashing chewing gum there. It’s gone now. The tooth that is. Literally had it pulled out of my head 20 minutes ago. At the moment I’m basking in the numbness of the injections.

Heaven compared to the last few weeks and the last four days in particular.
