I hate the smell of kerosene in the morning, Not to mention the taste too
Herself was complaining that her heating wasn’t working. I figured that it was probably because the oil had run out and I figured correctly. So rang up the supplier and an hour later the tank was full again. Except the heating still wasn’t working.
“Bugger.” Thought I, “Probably an air lock. ”
Off I went to bleed the boiler and sure enough after opening the bleed nut there was nothing coming out. The only option in this case is to pucker up and give the bleed valve a good suck. Done it before, no problemo. Except this time I never figured on what Sylwia would do.
Just as I got my lips around the valve she turned the bloody heating on!
I got a lovely pressurised mouthful of kerosene quickly followed by a face full of the stuff. By the time I got the nut back into position I was drenched in it. Whatever about your opinions on the smell of the stuff, trust me when I tell you that it doesn’t taste great at all.
That was about an hour ago and I’ve scrubbed myself almost raw in the shower to get rid of the smell. But having drank some of it I can also tell you that it repeats on you worse than garlic. The dogs won’t come anywhere near me.
Still, the heating is working now.
Drinking heating Oil! Now Robert, I have heard excuses in the past… but this beats the band!
i always thought the stuff smelled nice but i never tried tasting it. do you get that from amber oil as well?
Trust me Grannymar, I would have been quite happy for the rest of my days without tasting the stuff. even today I can still taste it.
Dan, funny you mention it because as soon as it had been delivered I happened to mention to Sylwia that I liked the smell of it. I certainly didn’t bank on finding out what it tasted like.
LOL!
On the one or two occasions that my kero has run out, I usually bleed it with the heating on. Once the burner has locked out, it’s unlikely to fire up without warning anyway.
Bung a 13mm LIDL spanner in the housing for future use.
Have the spanner! That wasn’t the problem. What is advised is removing the fuse before going anywhere near any burner!
I,m with Grannymar – excuses! excuses! lol
It’s been a couple of months now Jimmy and I can still taste the damn stuff in my mouth
Have you seen the price of kero?
Hope you don’t develop a drink problem!!!
That’s a very good point JJ. Although I suppose they way things are going with the economy it may still be cheaper than actual booze
