What a gig

It took over 10 years but one of the lads and myself finally managed to get to see Silver Jews live last night in Cyprus Avenue, Cork.

What a gig. Both of us were well impressed. The first time I used amazon.com was back in 1998 to buy their album American Water as I couldn’t find it anywhere in Cork. Tony had bought his copy when we were over in Germany so I never thought that they would have ended up playing in Cork especially as the main man was noted for refusing to go on tour.

Ironically while we were waiting for the doors to open we were approached by a German girl asking us did we know where Cyprus Avenue was. So while Tony bought an album of theirs in Germany, a German was going to see them play in Cork. Weird.

Seeing as I was the designated driver, alcohol was off the cards. This was a first for any gig that I have gone to over the years. It must be a sign that I’m getting old because it didn’t bother me in the slightest! In another sign that I’m getting old – my back was absolutely killing me from standing up. I couldn’t wait to get back to the car to sit down :|

Incidentially – I now know where the redlight area is in Cork as I inadvertadly parked my car there ;)

2nd case i’ve heard this week or a man “finding” our very own “red light” district.
Buddie thought he was just about to get mugged when this ould doll opened the door and asked him “are you looking for business” :)

Strange thing is that when I was living up on Bandon Road I used to walk past there on a regular basis in the dark of night and never noticed anything (or any one!)

I wonder if where they are touting now has anything to do with the redevelopment of the the quay downstream. The Clarion Hotel for example and the new boardwalk?

no man, that area was always the district for the ladies of the night. I am shocked that a man of the people like yourself didnt know this?
Maybe I would ask myself this. When you were walking through there late at night, I reckon you were hardly on your way home from the gym now were we?
Would you actually have been able to see if front of you not to mind around you :)

That’s a good point. My vision would have been a bit impaired!

I also would have been focused solely on the task of getting home and making sure my legs kept up with my head so that’s why I wouldn’t have noticed before ;)
