Barely a leg to stand on

Spotted these two Black-headed Gulls the other day while out walking with Lucas. The one on the right of the picture really only has one leg. The primary school I went to is just a little further down the road from where that photo was taken and at lunch time there would be hoards of gulls on the sea wall waiting for us to throw some scraps at them. There were always one or two that were missing legs! It’s always made me wonder how that could have happened? Click for bigger..

From what I believe they lose their legs through fighting – gulls are pretty hostile, I was attacked by a flock of them in Howth a few years ago because they wanted my bag of chips!

Aaron, that makes absolute sense. I never thought of that.

They are absolute feckers when they are in a crowd as I suppose some of us (people) are too :(
