At long last the iPhone has copy and paste

The latest iPhone firmware upgrade has been released today. At long last it has copy and paste as well as a few other much needed bits and pieces.

  • Can now send and receive MMS messages
  • Can now forward SMS and MMS messages!
  • Spotlight search feature
  • Landscape typing for Apple Apps
  • Can now stream video and audio

So is it now worth your while buying one? Well, no it’s not. Battery life will still be atrocious and the damned thing is only now getting features that it should have had before it was made available.

There is a full list of updates over here on Wikipedia. Most of which should never have been considered updates to begin with.

At the moment it isn’t yet available for download and if you have an iPod touch you will be screwed for $9.95 as you will have to actually buy the update. So that will probably be something like €1000 for us in the Eurozone or 20p for anyone in the U.K. Given Apple’s exceptionally discriminatory pricing.

This is a great addition to Apples ever-improving arsenal.

Its a shame iPod touch users have to pay to use software for hardware they’ve already bought though.

maybe the iphone 3 will have a slide out keyboard and an easily removable battery so it will be worth buying

is yours unlocked & jail broken and all that good stuff?

@Sean – It’s odd alright that iPod touch users have to pay. Maybe the reason it is free for iPhone users is something to do with the contract with the cellular operators?

@Dan – A removable battery would be handy alright. I bought mine with the intention on jail breaking it but the day after I got it there was a firmware upgrade. I figured there is no point jail breaking it as it pretty much does or at least will do in the summer, everything i need from it.
