  • Back at long last

First up I would like to thank William in eircom who was the service guy who was dealing with my problems over the past two weeks. He was truly outstanding and to be honest he did his utmost for me. I honestly have to give eircom 10 out of 10 for service. So I’m back! [...]

  • Eircom have kept their promise

Eircom promised to upgrade their customers broadband speeds by the end of July and with just 5 days to go I noticed my connection restart. A quick check of the router homepage and sure enough – I’ve been upgraded to 7.6Mb. I thought I was supposed to have been upgraded to 10Mb as I previously [...]

  • Where’s my upgrade?

It’s now the middle of June. I wonder where my promised broadband speed upgrade from eircom is? They still have a couple of weeks before the end of June and their promised date to upgrade me to 10Mb. I wonder if they will supply a new router? The Netopias are only capable for a max [...]

  • An Irish Botnet? Extremely strange and I have no idea what’s causing it.

Maybe someone might be able to enlighten me? I’ve been observing some really, really strange behaviour while looking through my log files. Two posts that I put up a few months ago are getting a lot of traffic. 896 hits alone on one and 154 on the other. in the past three days. Now that [...]

  • Follow up to my last post

The lads working outside finally finished up. At 20:30! That’s 12 and a half hours from when the first belt of the jackhammer hitting tarmac sounded. They’ve been working solid since 8 this morning. I suppose since this was the last 75m stretch they wanted to finish it all in one go. Fair play. Except [...]

  • Bit of activity outside the house

Bang, bang, bang, bang <pause> Bang, bang, bang, bang <another pause> ….. What on earth is going on outside? Thought I as I was aroused from my slumber at 8am this morning. Looked out the window to see someone busily digging up the road with a jackhammer and a JCB. I had completely forgotten that [...]

  • Oh woe is me

Another hard drive has gone to wherever it is that hard drives go when they die. This one however was in my firewall/router/outgoing proxy server. I noticed lots of disk thrashing going on and couldn’t connect through ssh. Once I hooked up a monitor there were loads of filesystem errors flashing past the console. I [...]

  • Eircom to promise faster broadband speeds

I should probably post this on my tech blog but nonetheless: Eircom have announced today that they plan to roll out speed increases on all their broadband products with some lucky punters being upgraded to 12Mb. Mine is currently 4Mb so I wonder how much of an increase I will get? Link to the article [...]
