Himself was giving me a hand reinstall a couple of my servers today. As you can see on the monitor behind I’m starting him off relatively lightly with Windows Server 2003. Early next week we will be moving on to the Sun Solaris boxes underneath the Dell Poweredges.

Things I’m not allowed to buy my son for Christmas

Lucas is two but some ground rules have been laid out already as to what I cannot buy him for Christmas this year:

A model Tie Fighter.
A model Millenium Falcon or indeed anything related to Star Wars.
Anything to do with Star Trek.
Anything to do with Stargate.
A new MacBook.
Anything to do with guns, weapons and the military in general.
Anything that is alive.
Anything that was once alive.
A domain name (not until he is 10 at least so I’m told but it’s too late already!)
A Playstation 3.
Grand Theft Auto IV for PC or Playstation 3.
A ride on toy tractor. (Apparently he’s too small)
Dinkys and other toy cars. (He has enough already)
Anything that makes loud noises and requires batteries.
A 1TB external hard disk. (For his baby photos honestly!!)

I guess all that is left is Play-Doh but that’s what I got him for his birthday a few weeks ago. And here was me thinking buying christmas presents for kids was going to be easy.

Can’t wait until he’s older.

Last two years are a blur

It’s Lucas’s second birthday today but as it’s Monday we had a bit of a party for him yesterday instead. He’s a happy little man with his new tricycle!

Another boat – The M.V. Julia, Horgans Quay, Cork

Edit – I’ve made a complete and utter balls up of this post. Lucas is on the bottom left of the photo. And the ship is the MS Julia not M.V.

Was up in the city today. While herself was off shopping, myself and Lucas were left to our own devices to wander about the place. Ever since it docked I have been meaning to go up and have a look at the M.V. Julia which will soon be sailing on the Cork – Swansea route.

The quality of this picture isn’t great as I took it using my N73 but you can see Lucas in his buggy on the bottom left corner for scale! Incidentally it is one of the largest ships I have seen in the city centre. Donncha has plenty of photos on his photoblog from which you can appreciate the size of it that little better.

Sports day

Almost a year ago I brought Lucas down to a voluntary play group that was set up here in Youghal called the Tweenies. Everything is self-funded and the club relies completely on donations. They meet on Tuesdays and Fridays over the regular school term and it is a fantastic resource especially if you have a toddler and want to get them used to being around other children.

Friday before last was the last day before the summer holidays and was sports day so here are a few photos that I took. As you can see Lucas had a great time!

Desks are the new hotness

Seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment with people wanting to see what other peoples desks look like. So much so there is even a dedicated site and even Grandad has his for all to see. However I’m going to show what’s under my desk (bench) instead, click for bigger.
