Too much LAN for one man?
Over the weekend I was in conversation via e-mail with The Other Fellow. Over the course of our correspondence I mentioned my setup here at home. Later on that evening I began to realise just how ludicrous my setup has become. I have four different networks, three wireless access points, and an unearthly amount of [...]

New Adventures in WiFi
Due to having copious amounts of time since being being made redundant I’ve been trying to keep busy as best I can. Of course Lucas keeps me busy at times but I also need to feed my inner geek. So for the past couple of days I’ve made a cantenna and have been busy circling [...]

Oh woe is me
Another hard drive has gone to wherever it is that hard drives go when they die. This one however was in my firewall/router/outgoing proxy server. I noticed lots of disk thrashing going on and couldn’t connect through ssh. Once I hooked up a monitor there were loads of filesystem errors flashing past the console. I [...]

DNS issues resolved I hope.
Pardon the pun in the title! I was having a few issues with DNS which a few people have notified me about. Kieran wrote about it on his blog and Eoin noticed problems too. Traffic was steadily flowing in so I wasn’t sure if the problem was with my DNS or not. Anyway it appears [...]

I managed to completely screw up my home Active Directory. I managed this by way of a botched installation of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 which failed to extend my schema as it was corrupted somewhere along the line. Of course as is usual for me, this provided yet another opportunity to overhaul my home network [...]

Who is using what?
While waiting for baby to arrive I’ve been tidying things up here a bit in anticipation that I won’t have much time to spend messing about with all my equipment. Subsequently over the weekend I have consolidated my site on to my Poweredge 2800. Everything is now running off the one machine including MySQL. So [...]

Is everything working ok?
I’ve been making some major changes to my setup here at home this weekend and I’m not sure if everything is working as it should be. I’m getting visitors as normal but I haven’t had a chance to check from another connection. For my frequent visitors: Have you noticed things are slower or quicker? Are [...]

Dodgy Netopia router? This could be the reason
Back in April I was having serious problems with my DSL. Sometimes my eircom supplied Netopia DSL modem/router would lose its connection every now and then. After a while it refused point blank to sync at all. So I replaced the router with another Netopia. Not long after the same problem reared its ugly head. [...]
